What happens after the IRONMAN is complete?

Day 1 – WOW! Did I really do that?  I’m really sleepy, Pat can you drive home today?  I slept the whole way home from Coeur d’Alene!

Day 2 – I feel great, I think I want to do it again!

Day 3 – Women Who Tri Hill Intervals workout.
Coach Matt: How do you feel?
Me: Pretty good.
Matt: You WILL walk tonight… NO RUNNING!
Me: Head nod.  I did run a few of them, really slow and legs were tired. :)

Week 2

I think I want to do another IRONMAN again next year.  Is it too soon to make that decision? :)  Do I really want to commit to the time and effort it takes to train for this?

Went for a short, easy hike.

WWT Hill Intervals again… I’m feeling a little better.  Matt brought a friend who was visiting from out of town.  The three of us finished one of the intervals together and I immediately started up the hill for the next one.
  • Matt:  Look at Chris getting after it
  • Friend:  That just means we have to catch her
  • Me:  First thought, I don’t care… then immediately started running faster  :)

I made it to the top just ahead of them!!  Totally FUN!  But, that was it for me.  We had a couple more intervals to do but, I had no desire to do that again… OWWWWW!!

Go on a vacation to San Diego!

Rented Cruiser Bike - Fun day

Both of us very relaxed!

Week 3

Vacation was awesome, head is right, body feels good… SIGN UP FOR ANOTHER IRONMAN! :)  Coeur d’Alene 8/27/2017!!!  WOO HOO!

I’m ready for more structure in my workouts/training.  Need a plan.  Coach tells me to think about some short-term goals and suggests doing an FTP (functional threshold power) test in a few weeks.

Week 4

WWT Hill Intervals again.  Legs feeling great!

Matt: Looks like you have some zip in your legs tonight.
Me: Yep, I feel good.
Matt: Are you ready for a FTP test?
Me: YES!

Also rode my bike this week, it was only the second time in the last month.

Hike – per coach/plan - carry 10 extra pounds of weight.  Hiked to Lava Lake.  What a pretty day for a hike.

Lava Lake

Week 5

Workouts increasing in intensity and duration.

Another hike with 10 extra pounds of weight.

Feeling like I need to run a race but, keeping it to myself.  Is it too soon?  Am I ready?

Week 6

Perform FTP test.  Tell Matt that I want to run a race… short-term goals decided.

Short-term goals:
  • Increase power on bike for next FTP in a few weeks (goal increase power by 10% every other week).
  • Run Veteran’s Day Race in Butte on 11/11

Upcoming Weeks
Some swimming, biking, running, hiking, and strength workouts! :)  Back to business as usual!!!!  WOO HOO!!
